In Room 1 we have been using our creativity to construct a castle using the spare boxes from class. We showed great collaboration skills, working together and sharing our ideas on what we could do. We had great fun!
This morning we were very lucky to have some special insects to look at and discuss in class. There were tarantulas, beetles, scorpions, and all sorts of other insects. We had some great discussions about how many legs each insects had and what the various bodies looked like, some were furry, spiky, and were many different colours.
Room 3 has been having fun learning about different shapes and their attributes. We created some “scary” monsters using different shapes.

We had fun Learning about Tonga . We did some tapa Art too!!!
Last week we created our own Tapa Art for Tongan Language Week. We have been learning our shapes in Math so first we identified which shapes we could see in a Tapa cloth. Then we used black and brown paint, potatoes with patterns and cardboard to create our own Tapa.
As part of the Nationwide Tongan language week celebration, we were lucky to have a group of Tongan Mamatuas,(Elders) showcasing some Tongan Arts and Craft.
It was amazing to see the fabulous things made from flax.
We are starting our Geometry unit this week. Here we are showing what we already know about shapes. We had to describe our shape by its attributes to our partners. Our partners then had to draw what they thought the shape was from the description they heard.
It was harder than we thought especially when we had to describe a rectangle!
We have been waiting for ages for this day. So much fun! We started off clean and dry and ended up wet and colourful. Not only did we get sprinkled with colour but we ran through snow as well! Imagine snow in Auckland! We also had a great game of Red Light, Green Light at the end of the race. We’re sure the teachers had more fun than us squirting us with water guns if we moved. Topped off with iceblocks at the end and balloons to take home…what a wonderful way to end a week and start the weekend.
